The days are getting shorter. The nights are a little cooler. Summer is slowly coming to an end, but the warm sun still offers very beautiful days. It invites us to take advantage of the last moments of heat, without delay.

The cries of joy of the children in the swimming pool resonate even louder, as does their la parents' laughter. We pull up a deck chair in the shade of the trees to finish the novel we started at the start of the vacation. But, as usual, we let ourselves go once again to doze off in the torpor of the afternoon, lulled by the sound of the wind.

Then, later, we go around the fig tree looking for the last figs. We pull on the branches to catch those that are still high up and that we have until now been too lazy to pick up. In the vegetable garden, hidden under the large dry leaves, there are still a few melons that we will keep in the fridge to savor later with a nice slice of cured ham. On the kitchen table the last watermelon is split in two and we rush to taste the beautiful red pulp. At the last bite, we close our eyes as if to remember its flavor.

After dinner, a glass of chilled wine in hand, we still play petanque under the big oak tree, but we have to turn on the lamppost, and its light sculpts long shadows on the pale sand. The game drags on and we do not want to go to bed... We just want to savor once again the sweetness of a summer evening without thinking about the next day.
